Midget cars, which are also called sprint race cars, are very small race cars using four-cylinder engines with a very high power-to-weight ratios. They are small only in size and not in performance.
They have not less than 250-400 horsepower in them, with as light a weight in them as only 900 pounds. The high power and small size of these cars at times turns them rather dangerous to drive at very high speeds; and it is for this reason that the modern midget cars are always equipped with roll cages and other safety features in them. They are generally run in races of relatively short distances, not more than 40 km in length. The famous Chili Bowl Midget Nationals are held in early January at the Expo Square Pavilion in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
